Painting Kitchen Cabinets

When we moved into our new house, the kitchen cabinets were painted white. Now, most people love white kitchen cabinets and would paint their cabinets if they were not white. Don't get me wrong, I love white cabinets. I had white cabinets in our old home, and they were beautiful. But for this house, I was feeling something different.

These cabinets were stark white and did not go with the counters or any of the floors. I included a picture of the kitchen below when we moved in. For this house I really wanted decor, colors, and finishes that went with the floors. These floors are unique and because they are in 90% of the house, I wasn't planning on doing anything with them. So these floors are becoming the foundation of this house for most every room.

I also wasn't planning on replacing the counters right away. I don't love these counters and they aren't my first choice, but there is nothing wrong with them, so I am keeping them for now. These counters are a black granite, and there are a lot of different shades and variations happening in the granite. One of those shades a really pretty gray blue.

Since there is blue in the counters and blue in the floors, I thought that blue would be the perfect color to paint these cabinets. There are a ton of different blues out there, so I went hunting. With the help of my sister, Lane, we found the perfect gray blue that would pull everything together: Blustery Sky by Sherwin Williams.

Great color, right? It is just the right amount of gray, the right amount of blue, and a bit moody. But it is also a bit light, so it is not overpowering. It is also one of those colors that changes depending on the light and space.

Once we picked out the color, Lane and I got to work! We took these stark white cabinets and painted them blue. Here is how we did it!
